CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

Interview members of this target market and ask them why they buy or don't buy music magazines and try and find out what they want in a music magazine.

For this I interviewed Nathan Robinson, seeing as he lives in Wales, it was easier to do it over Skype;
So, what kind of music do you listen to?
Heavy metal, and a lot of it.
Do you buy the metal magazines?
No.
Why?
The music these days isn't what I listen to, I'm a heavy metal fan, most of the 'metal' these days are.. not to my standard, not satisfactory. If I did buy a magazine it would be 'Hammer' because they focus on all metal and newer better ones.
What would you like to see in a metal magazine?
I'd like to see a lot more tour dates, descriptions on new/old band background's, more interviews with them, exclusive looks in to new videos and albums and more posters.

Choose a Sub genre of music magazines and present some of the main titles in detail.

As of most magazines, KERRANG! has a masthead at the top of the page, which is the largest text on the page to tell us what brand it is. The block of black at the top of the cover quickly advertise which bands are in the magazine. The text is in white, to contrast the black and makes it stand out. KERRANG! has a constant house style of 3 main colours, black, white and red. The black connotates dark, loud and gothic which is generally the genre of the magazine, while the red could represent pain, which is also relevant to the genre. The main cover line is big, bald and in various colours to attract the readers attention , which also anchors the main image so it is obvious that they're linked. There are other photos on the cover, which all aim to sell to the same demographic and connotes the same theme as the genre. The plain background reduces the attention away from the main elements.
The main cover photo is a medium close up, which shows everyone's facial expressions and clothes. Most of people are directing their gaze to connect with the audience. the people are also an 'ideal self' to the demographic of the genre.

Magazine covers

Here are two of my school magazine covers. I've chosen the sepia look for the one on the left as it makes it look more sleek and appropriate, where as I've gone for a black and white look for the rougher one.

Sell lines

9 sell lines for my school magazine;

  1. Success!
  2. Expectations?
  3. Are these subject choices right for you?
  4. 10 ways to cope with the stress
  5. Worried about uniform?
  6. Ofsted report 2014!
  7. New year, new start!
  8. How to deal with homework
  9. STRESS!

I used tones of grey to keep it in check with the background.
I do think I should have used flares of colours, to draw the audience in.

Evolution of my Masthead.

In class today, we had to create our own mast head for our school magazine, so I drew mine out my own fonts. I then had to go on to 'dafont.com' to choose a similar font to my own.

I have also chosen a few of my own favourites font that I found on the site.

I have placed the fonts in order of suitability.

Motherland has that rough yet neat and tidy look, with a 'hip' Russian twist.

Shadowed black has that gothic, medieval feel, which is also really classy and smart.

Kermlin is very tight edged, neat and square.

I don't really like adrip, I was planing on more a lager, almost bubble writing drip.
